Life Maintenance

The Family plan

Maintenance is rarely a one-person job. The Family plan lets up to six people share one household and split the load. This page covers inviting, sharing, privacy, and switching between views.

What you get on Family

  • Up to six people in one household (the owner plus five members).
  • Shared items. Anyone in the family can see the car, the fridge, or the dog.
  • Assigning tasks. "Olivia handles the dog. Marcus handles the yard."
  • Personal items. Things you mark personal stay private, even from your spouse.
  • Goals and rewards. Set up points-based rewards your kids can earn toward by completing checklists. See Points and rewards.
  • Checklist approvals. Review a member's completed checklist before it counts.
  • Per-member notifications. Each person sets their own email, push, and in-app reminders.
  • One bill. The owner pays. Members do not need their own subscription.
  • Family dashboard. A shared kiosk view on an iPad, with calendar, today's tasks, and a slideshow. See Wall Tablet.

Family is $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year. To start, the owner upgrades to Family at Billing.

Inviting people

Your household roster lives at Settings → Family. It lists everyone, their role, and whether they have joined yet.

To bring someone in:

  1. Open the person you want to invite, from People or their row on the roster.
  2. Add their email and pick a role: Admin or Member.
  3. Send the invite. They get an email with a join link.

You can resend a pending invite straight from the roster. Roles, emails, and invites are edited on each person's profile, so someone you already track (added without a login) can become a full member without losing the history you have logged for them.

Family settings is also where you set a PIN for each person and pair a wall tablet, so the whole family can share one screen safely. See Wall Tablet.

Each person belongs to one family at a time. If you invite someone who is already in another household, accepting your invite asks them to switch over.

What the roles can do

| Role | Can see shared items | Can add items | Can invite | Can change billing | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Owner | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Admin | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | | Member | Yes | Yes | No | No |

There is always exactly one Owner. The Owner can hand off the role from Settings if you ever need to.

When someone joins

When a family member accepts the invite:

  1. Their Home page immediately shows the household, not a blank slate, with this week's tasks and what is overdue across the family.
  2. They can see everything marked as family-shared in your household.

Members keep their own login. Their personal items stay personal.

Sharing an item

Every item has a Visibility setting:

  • Personal. Only you can see it. The default for things like your phone, your passport, your medications.
  • Family. Everyone in the household sees it. Use this for the car, the house, the dog, the lawnmower.

You set visibility when you create the item, and you can change it later from the item's detail page.

Family-shared items also have an Assigned to field. Assigning the dog to Olivia routes the dog's reminders to her and shows her as the person responsible. It does not hand over control, though: editing the item, adding schedules, and marking tasks done stay with whoever created it. To give Olivia full control, transfer ownership (see below).

What family members can and cannot do with shared items

On a shared item you do not own, your view is read-only:

  • You can see every detail: photos, notes, schedules, and history.
  • You cannot edit its details, mark its tasks done, or add schedules to it. Those actions stay with the item's owner, the person who added it.

On items you do own you have full control, and you can always create your own new items.

If you want someone else to be able to edit and complete a shared item, the original owner can transfer ownership from the item's More menu.

Mine and Household views

A small Mine / Household toggle appears on every list-style page (Items, Schedules, People, Pets, Locations, Supplies, and Checklists) and on your Home dashboard. It switches between:

  • Mine. Just your personal items, your assigned tasks, and anything where you're the linked person.
  • Household. Everything visible to the family.

The toggle is owner-/admin-only. Members always see Household. The whole point of joining is to share the load, so there is nothing for them to switch. Your choice is one setting that carries across the app: flip to Household once and every page stays on Household until you switch back.

Family relationships

Inside the Family plan you can also define how people are related. On any person's detail page, the Relationships section lets you say "Olivia is my daughter," "Marcus is my husband," and so on. Relationships are reciprocal: setting one direction fills in the other.

This becomes useful for things like family doctor reminders, school routines, and shared events.

Caregiver links

A caregiver link opens a read-only page for a grandparent or a sitter: the chosen kids' cards (school, teacher, activities with the coach, sizes, emergency contact) and their next seven days of events, with who drives and who picks up. No account is needed. Under Settings > Family > Caregiver links, name the link, pick the people to share, choose how long it lasts (a day to three months), and copy it once. Allergies, medical conditions, blood type, and health insurance are included only when you tick that box for the link. Revoke a link any time from the same place; whoever holds it then sees "no longer valid".

Event prep templates

Reusable prep lists for the events kids have, such as game day or field trip. Ten come built in. Make your own, or copy a built-in one and change it, under Settings > Family > Event prep templates. Calendar explains how a template is added to an event and how the assistant uses one.

Health timing

A person's page has a Health timing card with three things you set once:

  • Last checkup and Checkup repeats. Enter the last well-child visit or annual physical and how often it repeats. The next one is worked out from those, so there is nothing to keep updating but the date of the last visit. A booked appointment belongs on the calendar, not here.
  • School year starts. Only the month and day are read, so the date rolls forward every year. Once it is set, the card counts the required vaccines still due or overdue and names them before school starts.

On an activity, tick Needs a sports physical before the season and the activity shows whether the physical still stands. One done within the year before the season counts; an older one does not. The physical and the next checkup both print on the kid card.

When something is overdue or close, the person's page shows it in the band at the top. When every date is clear, the band stays quiet.

Removing someone

If a member leaves the household:

  1. Go to Settings → Family.
  2. Open their profile and remove them.

When you remove someone:

  • They keep their own account, but lose access to your shared items.
  • Anything they marked personal goes with them.
  • Anything they shared with the household stays.

Billing on Family

The Owner pays one monthly or yearly fee. Members do not need a card on file. If the Owner cancels or downgrades, the whole household drops back to the Free plan at the end of the billing period. Items and history are preserved.
